IE8 and You
I’m starting to get messages from clients who are wondering if they need to be concerned about the fact that IE8 is hitting the market. As in “will my website work with IE8?” We’re not running IE8 yet here at OT45, but need to add it to our test suite in the coming days to start looking for compatibility issues. My response to date has been that our analytics are showing that IE8 currently has less than a 2% adoption rate, so there’s no reason to panic, despite the scary email solicitations that clients are receiving from people trying to sell them stuff. This adoption rate will obviously ramp rather quickly in the coming months, but it’s not something that’s keeping us up at night right now. And…hurray…early reports from the blogosphere have been generally positive for IE8 with regard to compatibility issues. I’ll share a sample-size-of-one quote, “if it works in IE7 it’ll work in IE8.” Clearly an oversimplification, but it’s a good start. Now if we can only get folks to stop using IE6. Let us know if you’ve seen any issues with IE8 yourself.
